CS-32 FAQ

Q How do I use the CS-32 with Reason™ under OS X?
A CS-32 USB users can download the latest version of the CS-32 USB Software for Mac OS X™ which includes support for Reason. CS-32 MIDI users should download CS-32 MIDI Software for Mac OS X™.

Follow the installation instructions, then run the CS-32 application. Choose Import... under the file menu and navigate to the Reason keyset. This is normally installed in /Applications/CS-32/keysets (or /Applications/CS-32 MIDI/keysets for CS-32 MIDI users). Quit the application. This step only needs to be performed once.

In Reason, go to Preferences • Advanced MIDI and for Miscellaneous • Remote Control choose CS-32 MIDI Out (or CS-32 Software Out for CS-32 MIDI users). Make sure that CS-32 MIDI Out is not selected for any other options in either the Advanced MIDI preferences or MIDI preferences. Close the Preferences dialog and choose Enable MIDI Remote Mapping under the Options Menu. These steps only need to be performed once.

To use the CS-32 in Reason, you can base your new songs on the CS-32 Mixer Template.rns (normally installed in /Applications/Reason/Template songs) or you can create your own templates with “Edit MIDI Mapping” under Reason’s Options menu.

Q How do I use the CS-32 plugin with Digital Performer 4.1x under OS X?
A First of all it is recommended that you update Performer to version 4.12. CS-32 USB users can download the latest version of the CS-32 USB Software for Mac OS X™ which includes support for Digital Performer 4.1x. CS-32 MIDI users can download the CS-32 Digital Performer 4.x Plug-In for Mac OS X™.
Q Why can't I get MIDI working with the CS-32 USB under my non-English version of MacOS 9.x?
A Although the JLC OMS Driver and/or the JLC PPC FreeMIDI Driver are included in the software installer for the CS-32 USB, that installer may not install these files correctly when running under non-English versions of the Mac OS. If you have experienced this problem, then you can download OMS Support for MacOS 9 or FreeMIDI Support for MacOS 9 (depending on which MIDI system you are using) and manually install the driver.
Q I moved some files around on my Mac OS X hard drive and I think I moved some of my CS-32 files. What files are installed for the CS-32 USB and where are they installed?
A In the basic OS X install, the folder "CS-32" containing the CS-32 application, documentation, keysets and Third Party Support files is installed in /Applications. After the install, you may move this folder to another location if you wish. The folder "CS32StartupItem" is installed in /Library/StartupItems/. This should never be moved. Optional installs include the "CS-32 Mixer Template.rns" in /Reason/Template songs/ and "CS-32 DP 4 Plugin.bundle" in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/MOTU Control Surface/.
Q How do I make the CS-32 USB show up as a MIDI device in my MIDI applications under OS 9?
A When you run the CS-32 USB Installer, make sure you select either "OMS Support" if you are using OMS or "FreeMIDI support" if you are using FreeMIDI. Make sure you have also selected Basic Install. You don't need to install both options unless you are using FreeMIDI and OMS.
Q I moved some files around on my Mac OS 9 hard drive and I think I moved some of my CS-32 files. What files are installed for the CS-32 USB and where are they installed?
A In the basic OS 9 install, the files "CS-32 USB Interface" and "CS-32 USB Shim" are installed in the Extensions folder. The "CS-32 folder" containing the CS-32 application, documentation, keysets and Third Party Support files is installed in the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder. Optional installs include the "JLC OMS Driver" in the System:OMS Folder and "JLC PPC FreeMIDI Driver" in the System:FreeMIDI folder.
